Lalique is a French luxury brand that specialises in the production of exquisite crystal glassware, jewellery, perfumes, and home decor. Founded by René Lalique, a talented artist and master glassmaker, the brand has established itself as a leading name in the world of luxury and has become synonymous with elegance, sophistication, and timeless beauty.
How It All Began
René Lalique was a French artist and glassmaker who established Lalique in 18881. He began his career as a jewellery apprentice at the age of 16 and by 1881 he was a freelance designer for many of the best-known Parisian jewellers. In 1885, he opened his own workshop on Place Gaillon in Paris. Initially, Lalique started as a jewellery designer and his unconventional and imaginative designs gained favour among the affluent class of that time. However, in 1905, Lalique broadened his scope to include glass art, including perfume bottles, vases, and hood ornaments during the early twentieth century, and his creations swiftly became popular among collectors worldwide.
A Milestone In The Journey
In 1992, Lalique achieved a significant milestone by introducing its debut fragrance, Lalique de Lalique, with a blend of Jasmine, Iris, Rose, and Cloves as top notes, followed by Pear, Blackberry, and Cassis as middle notes, and Sandalwood, White Musk, and Vanilla as base notes. This fragrance was formulated by the renowned perfumer, Sophia Grojsman, and its immediate success marked the brand’s foray into the realm of perfumery.
In the Now
Today, Lalique is a well-established luxury brand that produces a wide range of fragrances, including men’s and women’s scents. The brand’s fragrances are sold in countries worldwide, with flagship stores located in Paris, New York, and Tokyo. In addition to perfume, Lalique also produces luxury glassware, jewellery, and home decor.
Did You Know?
One of the most unique things about Lalique perfumes is their use of art-inspired packaging. Many of Lalique’s fragrances are housed in beautiful glass bottles that are designed to resemble Lalique’s iconic art pieces. For example, Lalique’s Encre Noire fragrance is housed in a bottle that is inspired by the lines of a calligraphy pen. Also, the Amethyst Éclat fragrance is housed in a stunning purple bottle that features the brand’s signature butterfly motif.
